8 March 2010 – At a meeting of the Planning Committee held at Yapton & Ford Village Hall.

 

Present: Mr Faulkner (Chairman), Mr Andrews, Mrs Barnes  and Mr D Mills.

 

Also present:  Parish Councillors Mr J Mills and Mr Taft and Mr Tansley (Clerk of the Council).

 

Apologies for absence were received and accepted from Mr Jones.

12.  Members were reminded to make any declarations of personal and/or prejudicial interest that they may have in relation to items on the agenda.

 

13.  There were no declarations of interest.

 

MINUTES

 

14.  Resolved – That the minutes of the meeting held on 11 January 2010 be approved as a correct record and that they be signed by the Chairman.

 

PUBLIC QUESTION TIME

 

15.  Mr J Mills raised concerns about apparently unauthorised development which was taking place at 1 - 2 Canal Cottages and drew the Committee's attention to the fact that this was in a Conservation Area.   The Chairman advised that the District Council's Compliance Officer was aware of the situation and the matter was under investigation.   In view of the on-going works the Clerk undertook to check with the Compliance Officer on the latest position and advise members accordingly.

17. With reference to Planning Application Y/86/09/T, the grounds for the objection were as follows:

 

i) The Council believes that London plane trees are fairly rare in this area and would not like to see this example removed, unless there is no alternative.

 

ii) Therefore it is considered that other options such as tree husbandry should be explored as a way of resolving any concerns over the condition of the tree.

 

iii) Should it be agreed that no alternative is available following assessment by the District Council's Arbiculturalist, the Council would ask that a replacement London plane tree be planted in a more suitable location which makes allowance for any future land use plans.

 

18. With reference to Planning Application Y/9/10/, the grounds for the objection were as follows:

 

i) The proposed dwelling appears larger than adjacent surrounding buildings and it is considered unsightly because of the lengthy roof line.

 

ii) The proposed dwelling is considered to be out of character and appearance for the area.
