11. It was resolved to object to application Y/10/08/A on the following grounds:
i) It was considered the dimensions of the advertising boards were unnecessarily large, imposing and intrusive. The height should be restricted to a maximum of 2.5mtrs and the overall dimensions scaled down accordingly.
ii) On safety grounds the second board shown as sited off the present entrance to Hoe Lane should be relocated. In its proposed position it would prove a distraction to drivers travelling westwards and approaching the roundabout. It would encourage the belief, as does the siting of the two existing yellow AA direction signs already in place, that the “Signature Place” development was down Hoe Lane. These direction signs too should be relocated. If a second board was required it was suggested that it be sited on the verge adjacent to the words “Flansham Lane” as shown on the Advertisement Application Layout Plan.
12. The Committee noted that there was continuing concern that the cul de sac adjacent to the roundabout arising from the stopping up of the eastern end of Hoe Lane, would attract fly tipping or travellers. The developer had been asked to look at measures to prevent unauthorised access and use of the stopped up area.
